Omphaloskepsis means “meditation while contemplating the navel.” I could think of no title that better describes the contents of this book. I have found life a wonderful adventure, and my trip down the river of life very satisfying, even when caught by the occasional capricious current that twists and turns and leaves destiny and destination in doubt. Most events and individuals that I have encountered have been interesting, exciting, beautiful, enjoyable, or funny. Sometimes, as in the case of my wife, Merline, they have managed to be all of these things simultaneously.
