A fictional account of Barabbas, a lesser known Biblical character. All that is known about him is that he was an insurrectionist condemned by the Romans to die, until his path intersected with that of Jesus Christ. Barabbas was set free as Jesus was crucified in his place. Why, of all the persons born into the world, was his life the one to intersect with the life of Jesus on such a day, in such a given way?

Barabbas who? Basil Clark, in his unique style, has reached deep into the Bible archives of the lesser known and brought to us a warm, heart changing story of a man whose life was filled with pain and anguish. This story will force each of us to search our hearts and remember the challenge that we each faced as we came to grips in our relationship with Jesus.
In Clark’s writings, Barabbas takes on flesh and blood, not just a name, being revealed as a person with a dark side, yet one who was drawn into fascination with Jesus. Even though his encounter with Jesus was not spiritually motivated, one cannot hang around such a Person as Jesus without feeling the effects of such a friendship.
BARABBAS is well written and will keep your interest from start to finish, causing one to realize what life would have been like during the days of Jesus in and around Jerusalem.

Basil Clark, by way of BARABBAS, once again reminds us that we are never separated from the presence of God. And again we see that putting priority on our family unit is also a main concern of our Heavenly Father.

I started reading BARABBAS, became pulled into the story, and was unable to put it down until completion. How Barabbas interacted with Jesus in a way that changed his heart and life spoke to me, as I think it will to you.

Basil Clark made the almost unknown character, Barabbas of the Bible, become a real person that I could relate to. I found myself immersed in all the characters of this story. I believe I now have some insight into what it would have been like to live during the time of Jesus.

Unlike the shadowy Barabbas of the gospels, Clark’s Barabbas takes on flesh and blood and the passion of a revolutionary and the guilt and anguish of a driven man. Pushed into relief by conflict, both personal and political, the man appears, but then, not just a man, but everyman who ever asked, “Why was I of all people in history, the one whose life intersected with Jesus at this critical time?” This Barabbas, as ambitious revolutionary and neglectful husband and father, becomes a credible personal witness and reasonable interpreter of the events of the last days of Jesus in a way that posits plausible answers to some of history’s most enigmatic mysteries, while at the same time, drags the conversation forward into the Twenty-First Century.

Basil Clark has done it again! Through BARABBAS, he has given us a window into the mind and motivations of a man who scripture has named, history has remembered, and people of faith have often times forgotten. This book will challenge you to hear your own voice through a character that scripture has left silent. Listen to this voice and be surprised by its insights.

BARABBAS has all the elements of a good story. The characters are interesting and the dialogue is snappy. Basil did a beautiful job creating a life for Barabbas. It reflects scripture and is true to the message of the Gospel. In fact, “Jesus is a genius” as one of the characters in BARABBAS proclaims. Thanks, Basil for telling us the Gospel story in a fresh way. It is true that the kingdom of God is open now for any who will follow. My prayer is that you will read this story and discover for yourself that Jesus was and is still worth following.

Thoroughly enjoyable! Basil Clark humanizes a Bible character who is mentioned in only two passages of Scripture. His work of fiction portrays Barabbas as Everyman, and Mr. Clark not only provokes thought about this historically notorious character, but mediation as well, as we identify not only with Barabbas, but a character whose name has become synonymous with betrayal, Judas Iscariot. This work is not only insightful and an eye-opener to Jewish life under Roman oppression, but it is extremely entertaining as well.
~ David Ramey, Evangelist and Teacher

BARABBAS radiates with familiarity in situations we can relate to while giving us a story about hope and change. This book forces us to look at Barabbas more deeply, being propelled beyond our first thoughts. The story reminds me how truly remarkable our Savior is, and of our many second chances we receive. What a wonderful book!
