When he was a little boy about 7 or 8, his brothers and him would spend weekends with their Uncle and Aunt and first cousin who was about their age. The only requirement was they had to go to Sunday school and church. On Saturday his Uncle Albert Gurley would study his Sunday school lesson with his friend. His Uncle Albert was a Sunday school teacher and he would make the lesson come alive. Joseph would act like he was watching television, but his Uncle knew he was listening. To hear him tell the stories would fascinate Joseph.
His father and mother, Nathanial and Gloria Postel, carried the family to church, but when he was grown, he went his own way. He always felt empty on the inside and after years of searching, he found what was missing – God on the inside. God would give him an appetite for His Word. He went to seminars and took classes on Bible subjects, taught Sunday School at New Anointing Pure Holiness Church of God and was a faithful Bible Study class member, a Deacon in the church and Chairman of the Finance Committee.
He graduated from Howard High School in 1972, served in the U.S. Air Force, married the love of his life, Geraldine, in 1986. He is a father of 5 with 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. He retired from T.V.A. Sequoyah Nuclear Plant after 36 years of service. Doug Brock, who illustrated this book, was his friend throughout that time.
“Every mistake I’ve made is what made me. Sometimes it is hard to completely surrender, but my prayer is GOD let Your will be done in my life because You so love me beyond my understanding, and You know what’s best for me. God continue to lead and guide me, push and pull me, keep me and strengthen me, and give me an overflow of Your Holy Spirit of promise.”
